Between 660 m on the Rhone and 4,195 m at the Aletschhorn, Naters covers the largest difference in altitude of any Swiss municipality. Its natural terrace extends from the right bank of the Rhone (Rotten) via the Natischerberg to Blatten and the Belalp. Naters belongs to the Brig district. Birgisch and Mund merged with it on 1 January 2013, and part of the territory belongs to the UNESCO World Heritage site Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch.
