Between Valère and Tourbillon

Two castles overlook Sion. Valère dates from the 12th–13th century. Tourbillon, a fortress built at the end of the 13th century, is now in ruins. In 999, the bishop of Sion became count of Valais, and Sion became the political capital of the region.
